SVC Strategic Plan

This strategic plan sets out my mission and mandate, vision and values and offers an outline of the work I will be pursuing during my 3 year appointment as Scottish Veterans Commissioner. It sets a path and priorities as well as the next steps and approach my office and I will be taking. Some of this work may be more long term and continue beyond the end of my tenure and this would be a decision for my successor.

It was a real pleasure to meet veterans and staff at @sightscotlandveterans' Linburn Centre last week. I heard first-hand how much the Centre means to those who use it - offering a wide range of activities, specialist support, and, above all, friendship and companionship. It was inspiring to see the positive impact the Centre has in helping visually impaired veterans lead active, independent, and fulfilling lives.

The opening of the Garden of Remembrance at Kelvingrove in Glasgow yesterday was a deeply moving and reflective occasion. The Lord Provost of Glasgow, serving members of the Armed Forces, MSPs, veterans, families, and members of the wider community came together to honour and remember all those who gave their lives – and the loved ones they left behind – in the cause of our freedom.

After the service, I was delighted to meet Roy Geddes MC, Regional Manager of Erskine’s Activity Centres in Bishopton and Forres.

Edinburgh's Garden of Remembrance was opened today with a moving service. I was delighted to catch up with Sheila Elrick, Chair of @royalbritishlegionscotland's Women's Section.

I’m pleased that the Scottish Veterans Fund is now open for applications and I look forward to chairing the panel. I hope to see many of the commendable projects delivering expert help to the veteran community come forward for funding.

You can find more information on the main and small funding streams via the link in our bio and you can apply between now and 5th of December.
