A wonderful evening celebrating 10 years of the @veteransfoundationuk. We heard an inspiring address from @markormrod, enjoyed a beautiful performance by the @militarywiveschoirs and learned more about the Foundation’s plans to increase its support for the Armed Forces community. It was also good to meet some of the organisations already receiving funding, including @scotvetres and @operation_cairngorms. I had the pleasure of catching up with Rachael Harger of the @niveteranscommissioner and heard more about their work. The evening marked the launch of the Armed Forces Pledge, giving everyone an opportunity to say thank you to the nation’s veterans. Dawn joined the Royal Navy at 17, ready to build a career. The Armed Forces LGBT Ban cut that career short. If the Ban affected your Service between 1967 and 2000, you may be eligible for financial or non-financial recognition. Support is available throughout the application process. The Armed Forces and veteran community is diverse, but not every experience is equally well understood. New research is exploring the particular needs and experiences of non-UK communities within the Armed Forces community. The survey closes on 30 September. The researchers are also looking to speak to organisations with relevant insight and non-UK veterans who may be willing to be interviewed. “It has given me a sense of belonging and helped me build confidence.” That is the difference @forceschildrenscotland's work made for Isla, one of the young people featured in its new Impact Report. During 2025/26, the charity supported 437 babies, children and young people from Armed Forces families through in-person work. A further 820 young people found support through its digital services. The numbers matter, but so does ensuring children and young people feel heard, supported and able to shape the decisions affecting their lives.
