Veterans Housing Scotland

I attended the launch of Veterans Housing Scotland’s campaign to secure 25 more homes for veterans by 2025.

The campaign promotes partnerships between charities and social housing providers which will enable veterans to be nominated for social tenancies – an effective approach which I fully endorse.

Midlothian Council was the first housing provider to sign up, committing to allocate two properties a year to nominated disabled veterans and their families – an encouraging start. The very talented Edinburgh Military Wives Choir provided splendid entertainment for the evening.

I’m pleased that the Scottish Veterans Fund is now open for applications and I look forward to chairing the panel. I hope to see many of the commendable projects delivering expert help to the veteran community come forward for funding. A really valuable day of insight yesterday with updates and networking at Firm Base conference arranged by 51 Bde. Very encouraging to hear the range of policy and practice support for Serving people, families and the veteran community. Although there is still work to do to ensure that none are disadvantaged because of their Service.

Today, the SVC Office was represented at a moving and poignant re-dedication ceremony for the newly restored @scotvetres memorial. In the Eastern Cemetery in Edinburgh, it carries the names of more than 220 veterans who lived at Whitefoord House from 1911 onwards.
