Celebrating Scotland’s Veterans

Susie with Scott at the SSAFA event

I was privileged to attend not one, but two awards ceremonies celebrating some of the amazing achievements of Scotland’s veterans community.

On Tuesday I was at the Scottish Ex-Forces in Business Awards, a celebration of the achievements veterans in the business world and of businesses that demonstrate commitment to recruiting veterans and ensuring they are supported to reach their full potential in the workplace. It was humbling to be surrounded by so much talent on the night.

I was delighted to chat with Scott, a fundraiser for SSAFA, the beneficiary of the awards night, and meet his companion Lincoln.

On Wednesday I attended the Scottish Veterans awards, recognising our veterans in business, fitness, sport and the wider community, reservists who are doing great things, and the organisations doing great things for veterans and their families.

👏 Congratulations to the 17 projects awarded a share of the Scottish Veterans Fund 2023-24 to help them continue providing ex-service personnel with support for physical and mental health, financial, employment and cost of living challenges. Pictured is Veterans Minister Graeme Dey visiting Community Veterans Support in Glasgow. The organisation has been awarded £18,536 for its Warmer, Healthier, Safer Veterans project which is providing food, peer support and financial advice to veterans facing challenges as a result of the cost of living crisis. Really interesting visit to @combatstress yesterday to meet with staff and veterans at their new Edinburgh Hub. It was great to hear more about their services and veterans' personal experiences of using them. #veteransmentalhealth #veteransvoices #itsokaytoaskforhelp
