Celebrating Scotland’s Veterans

I was privileged to attend not one, but two awards ceremonies celebrating some of the amazing achievements of Scotland’s veterans community.

On Tuesday I was at the Scottish Ex-Forces in Business Awards, a celebration of the achievements veterans in the business world and of businesses that demonstrate commitment to recruiting veterans and ensuring they are supported to reach their full potential in the workplace. It was humbling to be surrounded by so much talent on the night.

I was delighted to chat with Scott, a fundraiser for SSAFA, the beneficiary of the awards night, and meet his companion Lincoln.

On Wednesday I attended the Scottish Veterans awards, recognising our veterans in business, fitness, sport and the wider community, reservists who are doing great things, and the organisations doing great things for veterans and their families.

Last year, the Female Veterans' Transformation Programme launched the Supporting Female Veterans Toolkit, containing practical, evidence-based advice and information to help charities, statutory services and employers better support women veterans. From insights on needs and identity, to practical checklists for providing support in a range of areas, this is a hugely valuable resource to improve experienced and outcomes for an often overlooked group. An inspiring evening at the Scottish Forces in Business Awards, where the huge contribution of the Reservist and military community in Scotland was recognised. Fantastic to see so many employers celebrating their military colleagues and to witness the range of talent and commitment from Rising Stars to Lifetime Achievement Awards. And great to meet with Julie Ann Simson of @forcesemploymentcharity. Congratulations to all nominees and winners!
